Scouting Notes

PACE, PACE, PACE!

An exceptionally quick skater who creates separation with ease and loses very little speed when moving laterally or backwards. Wins a ton of races and uses his acceleration, edgework, and lateral mobility to close on opponents quickly. Plays at an extremely high pace, with the ability to handle the puck at speeds that few players can match. His skating is a major driver of his offensive impact, allowing him to attack space, beat defenders wide, and create opportunities in transition.

A strong puck handler with excellent control at high speed and an obvious ability to make defenders miss. Combines quick hands with very good stick-handling coordination and hand-eye, allowing him to operate effectively in tight spaces. Owns a threatening wrist shot and is a willing shooter, showing good drag-and-shoot ability and the ability to get pucks off quickly. His shooting threat helps alleviate some concerns surrounding his size, as he can create offence without needing much time or space.

Makes quick, consistent passing reads and moves the puck efficiently. Comfortable making simple plays to start possessions, utilizing his partner and delivering accurate breakout passes at speed. Regularly hits teammates hard on the tape in stride and has shown the ability to make plays under pressure from bigger forecheckers. Particularly effective on the power play, where his quick puck movement, creativity, and ability to attack seams make him a dangerous offensive catalyst. Can move the puck rapidly around the zone, create high-quality passing lanes, and threaten defenders with his shot. His quickness and presence force opponents to adjust, opening opportunities for dangerous seam passes and high-quality scoring chances.

An excellent transition player who consistently creates offence off turnovers and makes good decisions when joining the rush. Shows strong instincts for when to jump into the play and generally makes sound decisions with the puck in motion. His ability to create at such a high pace is a significant differentiator, and he consistently generates chances without appearing to force plays or put himself out of position. Relentless in his offensive approach while maintaining good awareness of his responsibilities.

Defensively, his skating allows him to close gaps quickly and pressure puck carriers, with his footspeed serving as the foundation of his game. Makes solid pinch decisions and can force opponents into uncomfortable situations through pressure and positioning. Questions remain about his ultimate penalty-killing effectiveness, as his size and relatively short stick limit his ability to clog passing lanes and disrupt plays through reach alone. An early penalty-kill goal against was not necessarily his fault, but the area warrants continued evaluation. His defensive impact is more reliant on mobility and anticipation than physical presence.

Competes willingly and is not afraid to engage physically, though he lacks the size and strength to consistently make an impact through contact. Bounced off larger opponents on a couple of attempted hits, and physicality is unlikely to become a defining strength at the next level. However, his willingness to engage is encouraging, and he does not need to be a punishing player to remain effective if he continues to use his skating and positioning to his advantage.

Was the best player on the ice in this viewing, consistently creating chances and making quality decisions. An excellent start to the NCAA season, with his skating, puck skill, and processing allowing him to dictate play at an extremely high pace. Projects as a dynamic offensive driver who can create at even strength and thrive on the power play. Defensive effectiveness, particularly on the penalty kill, and his ability to withstand physical engagement against bigger opponents remain the primary areas to monitor.
