Jakub Husar

Scouting Notes

A first viewing for the much talked about Jakub Husar, did not disappoint. After a great showing at the Hlinka this past summer he has earned some attention. In this game he is suited up for the Slovakia U18 squad, taking on HC Levice. This was a game in which Husar faced a professional level team and was up to the task. Although he took the loss and let in more goals than most goalies would like, it was a solid outing for the young netminder. Let's break it down, the skills-- Husar has a very refined game, one in which he displays quick and efficient movement in the crease and provides plenty of athleticism to the mix. He has an extremely quiet upper body when navigating the plays, a skill that really keeps his game composed--he rarely gets out of position during this game. Husar adds to his toolbox with exceptionally quick feet and play reads. Outside of the crease he is very comfortable with the puck on his stick and making plays to keep the opposing forecheck frustrated. Something I noticed during this game was a small amount of awkward and uncomfortable play around his posts, this may be a one-off but something to keep an eye on during the year. Additionally I noticed a few times, Husar gets caught deep in his net, this may be caused by the large shot volume and lack of trust in his teammates to cover their assignments in the defensive zone. Again, this will be a focus going forward this year. Overall, a very promising first watch of Jakub Husar.
