Scouting Notes

A strong short-area player who showed well down the middle in this outing, using leverage, puck protection, and body control to his advantage. He is particularly effective along the boards and in tight spaces, where his hand-eye coordination and puck-handling ability allow him to maintain possession and extend offensive-zone sequences. He has some intriguing tools, though improvements in skating power, pace of play, and defensive positioning would help round out his game.

His skating is adequate and not a major liability, but he could benefit from more power and explosiveness in his stride. He looks somewhat unbalanced on his edges and lacks the power needed in his backward skating. His pivots also need refinement. He can get around the ice, but improved agility and acceleration would help him create more separation and become more effective off the rush.

A very good short-area puck handler with strong hand-eye coordination and a solid feel for controlling the puck in traffic. He may not possess the flashiest skill set, but his hands are effective, particularly in tight quarters. He is a good receiver and shows confidence handling the puck along the boards in both zones. His body control and ability to use leverage make him difficult to separate from the puck.

He is comfortable working the cycle and can help sustain possession in the offensive zone. However, he can overhandle the puck and attempt to do too much, particularly when entering the offensive zone. He is not an elite rush threat and can be somewhat nonchalant when attacking with speed. His release off the rush is also on the slower side, and he struggled at times to find soft ice. On the power play, he moves the puck adequately but tends to rely on simple passes and could do more to improve the pace and fluidity of puck movement.

Faceoffs were a positive, as he showed a good understanding of leverage and the ability to use his strength effectively on draws. He is a strong player along the boards and in confined areas, where his body positioning and puck protection stand out. He appears to have good strength for a young player and uses it effectively to maintain possession and compete in traffic.

Defensively, he shows a willingness to get back into the zone, but his positioning can be inconsistent. There were sequences where he appeared to be in the defensive zone without necessarily being in the right spot. Improved defensive awareness and positioning would help him become a more reliable presence at centre. His energy level can also dip late in shifts, affecting his ability to maintain the same level of engagement throughout his time on the ice.

After this outing, I can confirm there's an intriguing centre prospect here with good strength, strong hand-eye coordination, and an effective short-area game. He competes well along the boards, protects the puck effectively, and showed well on faceoffs. His ability to handle pressure in tight spaces and contribute to the cycle gives him a useful offensive foundation. The main areas for development are skating power, edge control, pace of play, and defensive positioning. He would also benefit from simplifying his decisions on entries and moving the puck with greater urgency. His game is built more around strength, puck protection, and short-area skill than dynamic rush creation.
