Cooper McAslan

Scouting Notes

Versatile viewing for McAslan here as he was effective in all 3 zones. Used a good DZ Stick to break up multiple plays. Showed some one touch passing ability on the PP as well as a willingness to use his one-timer. Had some good reads on quick-up passes that turned into easy zone entries for his team. Was willing to absorb contact in order to make a smart play with the puck, as well as putting his body into shooting lanes on multiple shot blocks. Maintained good gaps and didn't back up on top of his goalie. Used good lateral mobility to force plays to the outside and towards the boards. Looked competent on both the PP and PK. Showed some composure as a puck carrier under pressure and finding a secondary option. Did a good job of using an effective high-flip when a clean out wasn't available. Nice job keeping the front of his net clear. Had 89% passing accuracy on the night. Engaged physically and was good in 1-on-1 battles. Had the odd rare instance of getting fixated on a play and having the pass picked off or shot blocked as a result. Overall , he looked every bit the part of a 1st round pick with Top 4 two-way upside.
